Motor Vehicle Maintenance Studies

At Woodlands, students have the opportunity to take Motor Vehicle Studies as one of their options in Key Stage 4 alongside their core subjects. Students will develop their mechanical skills and embark on a level 1 qualification within the first year of their studies. Once completed, students can choose to continue to develop their skills to the certificate level the following year.  Within the course there is a choice of units that can be chosen to be completed, with one mandatory unit being Health and Safety.

All students are required to complete a Learner Assessment Record. They will be supported in completing and assessed by the Motor Vehicle Teacher and Assessor, by the standards of each unit. Along the journey, a portfolio of evidence which will include formal assessments and unit exams will be created.

Aims of the course

Upon completion of the course, we aim to provide the industry with competent, confident workers who have a positive attitude. Students will be able to meet any challenges and thrive successfully in the workplace. These aims are met by developing students’ practical abilities as well as presenting them with intellectual challenges.

How will this course support students' realise their potential?

This course will help students to realise their own potential and determine their own goals.  This qualification encourages you to draw on your experiences and achievements, enabling you to develop not only your practical abilities but also your personal attributes, which you consider to be important.

After the successful completion of your course, you will gain the level 1 qualification, which will be the foundation of your chosen career in the motor vehicle industry.  You will have the opportunity to progress to level 2–3 qualifications if this is your chosen path.

  • Students have successfully secured apprenticeships at Furrows motor vehicle garages through this course once leaving Woodlands School.
